Location for the kids garden

South side of Kincaid Street Community Garden, 2014

Dear Friends and Gardeners of Kincaid Street Community Garden,
Spring is coming, slowly but surely, and it is time to start some serious planning for the garden. May 1st will be our official first start date for the garden this year, though the last frost may not be until the middle of May. If you haven’t already started your own seedlings, check out Grow Pittsburgh’s seedling sale here:

Volunteers this Saturday, April 4th

The ground was too frozen last Saturday for volunteers to do much work there. However, we will have another volunteer group from CMU helping out in the garden this Saturday, from 9 to 12. They will be adding compost to the garden beds and fixing the pallet fence.

Kids’Garden Crafts on Saturday, April 18th

This year, we will be using the $1300 we raised by crowd-funding last year for kids activities in and around the garden. To kick off the activities for kids, on Saturday, April 18th, from 1-4pm, Assemble will be having a “Crafternoon” where kids will build bird feeders and bird houses for the garden. This free event is open to kids in grades 1-8. Let me know if you know kids that would like to attend.

Meeting on Sunday, April 19th

Please mark your calendars for the next garden meeting on Sunday, April 19th at 3pm. I hope to have most of you at this meeting to prepare for the season together. We will tentatively plan to meet at the garden, depending on the weather.
Looking forward to seeing you out this spring!
